Hard Knocks – Revisit

I was looking at the inactive report last week and noticed again that Tom Nelson was on it along with Andre Smith (of large man-breast fame) yet again. I was wondering to myself, and now to you; “was it a bad idea to keep Tom Nelson?” You all have probably heard that Andre Smith’s contract was apparently very favorable to the Bengals, and that his agent Alvin Keels is probably not going to work in that capacity for another athlete ever, because of that very contract, so we are going to be OK there if he ever develops. I have to wonder if Tom Nelson just stays on inactive, why we didn’t keep Dede Dorsey instead. I love our two running backs, I personally like rookie Benard Scott better long term than any other RB from this years draft. Dorsey though is a great change of pace back, and while I also like our third down back Brian Leonard, after watching Dorsey tear it in his first night in the UFL, I just think that maybe he has a better shot at actually earning playing time than does Nelson. With the injury to Roy Williams you would think that Nelson might see the field, but I guess we would be thinking wrong.
I also can’t understand what is going on with Chase Coffman, is it he, or our coaches that aren’t able to handle the situation there, I don’t get it, it’s week 7, and he has been in active all season so far. Now when we have no TE’s that can catch consistently we need him more than ever, and from what I’ve read, no chance of him being on the field for a while STILL. Could he possibly be that much worse than what we have now? I wish the Bengals would let us know WHY he is not active, can’t block? can’t catch? can’t learn the playbook? injury? I mean c’mon what is a matter with this guy, where he can’t replace two guys that look like 5th graders out there trying to catch the ball.
All that being said, watching Hard Knocks was a lot of fun, was fairly insightful, and I got to know the meaning of “Child Please”….
